Live to be good to others

Isnt this what you want others to be ?? Taken from a web source.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We live to be good people. Yet sometimes, I think we slip into just living, not even just living, but a sort of existing that includes going through the motions of eating, talking, working, sleeping, with no attention on what each moment of being is for us.

How do we live to be good people? What is required of us? Do we need to be superheroes? Heroes? Do we need to be Great Buddha’s? Jesus? Moses? The Prophet?

When we walk along the sidewalk, we notice an ant and step over the ant. When we notice there is no toilet paper on the roll, we replace the toilet paper. If someone is angry with us, we listen. If someone needs us, we are there. These are nothing really special, nothing extraordinary, yet so often we are so asleep that we step on the ant, leave the bathroom, blow off someone’s feelings, and turn on the TV. Modern life has many exits.

Attention to the world within us and without us: we are neither engaged nor disengaged. Whatever is there is there and we are with it 100%. Our body is upright; our mind is upright; our heart is open. Practice.

I'm with u a 100% on this.... if people practise a little bit of kindness I'm sure we can see a huge difference... It's very sad though that many people just don't care u knw.... a little bit of kindness and a few good deeds can do wonders...like the ones mentioned in ur post.. we unfortunately live in an ear where it's only "I" and not "US" that matters... It's never "WE" but "ME". this needs to change.. and people need to be less selfish..

I'am with you completely Divine. Every religion teaches to help others and to let go of "I".I think its high time we take it a bit seriously.

ur ryt...but preaching doest seem to have any effect.. any bright ideas?

Well in majority it seems yes. But preaching do get in to some peoples minds. The perfect examples is in my post. It was some thing on the web which we learnt from. Its a kind of preaching. Well does that answer your question or..

Preaching is one method to get stuff inside to peoples head. When you hear something even if u dont conciously listen to it still it goes to your brain.. and if you pay attention to something and listen to it it goes and regitered in your subcounciouse... sometimes these things process in your subconcious without you even realizing it properly...have you ever thought how do u get influenced by someone??? thats how influence comes in.... Now when you conciousely think about it and when you can see the light thats u understanding it!!!

So preaching has its advantages... thats a very good way to get the message across...

I agree with you Thakshila. The first step is to get the message across. Action comes second but thats the most important part. The society is full of bull shit. But one great mind of compassion can do a great change.

Exactly feather man... One small spark can set the whole forest on fire... If you're really look there are alot of good people out there... its just a matter of meeting them.. and like they say... birds with same feathers flock together!!! so if your on the same track ur bound to meet the other people who travel that way...

what also counts is the way u preach and put the mesg across to people and the point abt influence, u need to have talent and know the real art of influencing... only for good deeds though.. for one thing i'm a little against influencing as it is ultmately someone else gettin u to do something and it doesn't come from ur own heart. when a good deed is done forcefully or under someone else's infleunce, the gravity of goodness in it is on the decline. It should come from within a person's heart..... They need to feel the real need to be good and do something good.

Yes. If the person who does is not mind full enough there can be damages done. But unless it’s not damage the society gets the advantage of it. Think about littering. It’s controlled by law in some countries and law influence people not to do it. But on the whole it benefits the nation, nature and the society in many ways.

You can join PETA and do some thing for the animals just because ur friend is doing so but if your not giving up eating meat its no use. So mindfulness in good deeds is very much required.

talkin abt laws....we seriously need some pretty strict ones to boost up the level of discipline of the people in this country..... seriously!

Man how right you are.. just makes you think.. i spent the last week thinking about something close to this. Feel very satisfied over doing something about it !

and after sometime of continuess influencing it can be set as norm... Again both good and bad. A good example is people shitting in public in India!!! Even in the heart of Chennai you get people doing that in public. VERY yucky to see...
I heard (Don't know how true it is..) that they started it to disgust the english during their time of ruling in India...
Now it has become a norm and after fifty years of liberation they still shit around the roads and pavements!!
So ifluence if not used properly can be a killer!!

and Feather man if we're mindfull enough... I don't think we will do anything else but good and fair deeds....

Evil- Seems like u have done some thing good. Thats the spirit man keep it up.

LD, Thakshila- Agree with your point. I know only the law cant change things. Attitude and sacrifice is needed. And that too are the hardest to find. And then we are back to the squair one. Preeching can do some change in that area.

yuck! shitting in public... i hope i never live to see that!
